New Facility

The Need

First Congregational has been meeting in the current Seldon Street location since 1993. The church was built south of Quinpool so it would be in walking distance of the university campuses, and remain in the area where we sensed God was calling us to be as a church. While the facility initially met the needs of the church, we have a great problem - there are too many people and too many activities for a church this size! We have been blessed with many young families in recent years. Our Nursery and Sunday School have both increased greatly in numbers but both have limited space.

Temporary Measures

We have made some modifications to the lower level of our church to better accommodate the children's programs. There is now a second nursery and a divider in our main hall downstairs to make room for another Sunday School class. If you have any creative ideas about how we can better utilize our current space, we're always open to suggestions!

The Search

First Congregational has a New Facility Committee led by Jack Goldston, and backed by a fantastic team of dedicated members who are actively searching for an existing surplus church in our community, a commercial building that can be renovated, or land where we can build a new church home. We have been listening for God’s direction in all that we do and had a prayer walk around Halifax from the universities north to Quinpool, and ending back at our current facility (the photo above is of some of the group on that walk). Our desire is to remain south of Quinpool in an area where we can continue to reach out to students and our Halifax neighbours. We believe God has shown us where we are meant to be!

Get Involved

We would love to have you partner with us in this venture. Would you pray about joining us financially? Please print a copy of our pledge form here, or contact the church office at this link or by calling (902) 423-5068 ext. 1 and we would be happy to email or fax a copy to you.  We also appreciate your prayers during this exciting time.

If you would like to learn more about this project please speak to Jack Goldston.  If you would like to give to the project, you can give directly to the church and designate "Vision Fund", or visit our CanadaHelps page and select Vision Fund under your donation amount. And most importantly - please pray that the Lord will lead us to the right place at the right time!
