How We Give

First Congregational Tithe Program

First Congregational gives to local and international missions through our Tithe program. Just as each of us has a Biblical call to give back to the Lord, we as a church feel that call. We started by giving 10% of our general offering each year, but we felt the Lord was asking us to do more. We now give 20% of our general offering, with 5% going to the national office of our denomination, and 15% to outside missions, ministries, and individuals in support of their work locally and abroad.

Who We Support – Locally and Nationally

  • Alan Lensink – InterVarsity Christian Fellowship – BC – University and High School
  • Brian - Power to Change Campus Ministry, Halifax
  • Open Door Women's Care Centre, Halifax
  • Souls Harbour Rescue Mission Nova Scotia, Halifax
  • Outreach Fund – a portion of our local support is used for activities such as winter clothing drives, Brunswick St. Mission breakfasts, and helping with short-term mission trips

Who We Support – International Workers

First Congregational supports a number of people working and living in Canada and around the world. Their lives are making a difference to many people and they inspire us every day! Our financial support is one way we can encourage these wonderful people in their work. Through our Tithe program First currently supports:

  • Wayne Mac Leod – Action International Light to My Path Book Commentaries
  • Central American Mission – a portion of our tithe has been set aside for a future youth mission trip
  • Megan Ingram – Operation Mobilization Caribbean
  • David and Kate – living and teaching in the Middle East
  • Dan and Elizabeth – Asia
  • Sarah Mott – Youth With a Mission, France
